Personal Background
Yuni Yoshida was born in Tokyo, Japan, on October 2, 1980. She began her journey as an artist and photographer at Ohnuki Design. She studied and graduated from Joshibi University of Art and Design. She then later worked for several advertising companies. In 2007, she created her own office and her career has skyrocketed since then.
Style
When I think of Yoshida's work, it often reminds me of what you would see in your home on a regular basis but in a new way imagined. For example, fruits in some of her images might remind you of the fruit bowl in your kitchen. However, some of the fruits appear to be above the ground level, some are over layed into each other and others appear on their own. She often has work with a very focused visual point. This allows the viewer to understand the message much better and to enjoy the image more.
Philosophy
In many of Yoshida's photographs, she depicts the creativity and diversity of different fruits. In other images, people are involved. Sometimes with the fruits and sometime without. She is very well known for using many color combinations and using foods in ways many people didn't think about. I believe that most of her messages are personal and general.
Influences
Yuni Yoshida has influenced me to think out of the box when I am taking my own photos. I know this because before I discovered her, if someone handed me three fruits and told me too take an interesting photo out them, I would not know what to do. Now after researching her I know that this is actually a very interesting method. I am now inspired to take photos and create a message out of what seems like simple or boring objects. I find this as a new and interesting style to try.
Part 2
I think this was my closest match out of the three photos that I took. I used an apple, an orange, and a banana in this photo. Yoshida's photo is a far view so I took a new perspective and went from a closer view.
In this photograph, I used a grapefruit, an apple, and a kiwi to recreate Yoshida's "Spliced Fruits". I had to cut them all in half in order to match the original image. Mine is at a different and has different shadows due to the limit in what I can do with editing. I think the colors came out well and accurate.
In this image, I took a slightly different approach in order to provide my take on this image by Yuni Yoshida. I used an apple and an orange. The orange was full in one part of the image and cut in the order. I tried my best to match this as closely as possible. After editing, I think I got the colors and lighting to match the original really well.

Artist Statement
I really enjoyed taking these images and I think it overall went very well. I had trouble picking which images to recreate because Yuni Yoshida has such a wide variety of images. In the end I went with her Spliced Fruits collection because I wanted to keep it all on the same theme. I displayed my use of lighting and balance the most in these images. Everything that I learned this semester so far has helped me out a lot for this project.
